2014 Town Reassessment

Appointments to meet with the Assessor to discuss your 2014 tentative assessment can be made by calling the Town office (#834-9398) AFTER MAY 1st.  The Assessor will be available for appointments at the Brutus Town Hall on May 8th (9 AM-Noon),  May 15th (10 AM-5 PM), May 17th (9 AM-11 AM) and May 20th (4 PM-8 PM). 

Grievance Day is scheduled for May 27th (1 PM-4 PM & 6 PM-8 PM), please call to schedule an appointment if you would like to attend grievance. 

Anyone who has already met with the Assessor(s) will receive notification of their tentative assessment around May 1st.  After you receive this notification you can still meet with the Assessor again and/or come to Grievance Day. 

Form RP-524 is required for these appointments and/or Grievance Day appointments.   This form is available at the Town offices or at http://www.tax.ny.gov/pdf/current_forms/orpts/rp524_fill_in.pdf

Preliminary change notices have been mailed to all property owners in the Town of Brutus.  Informal reviews will be held from March 11th until March 15th.  Please use the links below for more information on how to prepare for and schedule an appointment.  

 

The preliminary roll shows the new assessments for every parcel in the Town and is in tax map number order.  The residential and commercial letters explain how to proceed if you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your assessment.  The residential review application is the form which needs to be completed before an informal review.  The Sales Used link provides a list of houses that sold in the last five years that were used to reassess properties.

   

If you would like a print out of the specific sales (comparables) used to value your home please stop by our office to have it printed.

 

  

 

A data mailer will be forwarded on or about July 19, 2013 to everyone who owns property in the Town of Brutus.  Please take the time to update/correct any information on the form and return it to the Town Office prior to August 30, 2013.  This information will be used to determine the current market value of each parcel for the purpose of creating equitable assessments.  If changes are made to the assessed value of your property it will be reflected in the 2014 school taxes and 2015 town and county taxes.   A sample of the information you will receive in the mail is attached below.  Thank you for your assistance with this process.
